    Long Beach Yacht Club

    History and Milestones
    Founded within the depression decade, from 1929 the Long Beach Yacht Club has survived hostilities and continued on a colorful course for 77 years now.

    Jonas Jones, Jr. early in 1929 led several gatherings of leading yachtsmen who are eager to establish a Long Beach Yacht Club. After finally working out on the details, Jonah prepared the articles, which were filed for incorporation on October 7, 1929. Ratifying the articles was a breeze and a charter was granted to Long Beach Yacht Club. The club then extended invitations for charter membership to 100 yachtsmen. It was a successful opening for the Long Beach Yacht Club even when the distribution of invitations happened to coincide with the downfall of the stock market in New York on October 29, 1929, which would set off the Great Depression.

    Despite its crude beginnings, club members won in several yacht racing competitions like Dick Loynes, who was elected as the first Commodore of the club. But founding an elite yacht club wasn't the sole purpose of the pioneers. They were the founders of the world's longest Power Cruise Race that ran for 447 miles from Long Beach to San Francisco, and promote it to the world.

    Since that day and to this date, the Long Beach Yacht Club continues to encourage young sailors to this undertaking. To materialize that, the club has a vigorous Junior Sailing Program, which under club members' volunteers brings young sailors to join in regattas against their peers. The Long Beach Yacht Club also brings together swimming enthusiasts through its Junior Swim Team who compete with contenders from other yacht clubs and swimming organizations. The junior yachtsmen were allowed to form their own organization they call the Corinthians and have a set of officers.

    Sailing events
    The LBYC will again be hosting their annual regatta called the "Long Beach Race Week 2007" that will happen on June 22nd to 24th. The LBYC has put up a special website for this event, which is lbrw.org, where information can be obtained.

    The LBYC is not confined to yacht regattas alone - they also host a number of events like Fishing Tournaments, Predicted Log Races, and Cruises. The LBYC Foundation, meanwhile are engaging in yacht charters. Charter rates range from $325 to $500 per day for fleet or corporate charters.

    Membership
    Membership in the Long Beach Yacht Club is easier done than said. The official website of the LBYC features a membership tab where an online form is available.
